Our Story

The Visionary Journey of  Vaana by Vidhhi Singh

My love for jewellery began at a very young age, I have distinct memories of my maternal grandmother picking out diamonds from a pudiya (small pouch) and sorting them meticulously for hours to choose only the best for her family’s bespoke pieces. The process was time staking but fascinated me. She looked through an eye glass while the diamond merchant sat there waiting eagerly for her approval as she categorised diamonds into small piles depending on various parameters of what we now call the 4c’s. Only the best were put into one small pile which we would later wrap together and hand over to her. These she would take to her Godrej Almirah, open the locker and lock away.

Diamonds or other precious gemstones weren’t obtained by her for when she needed to create a piece, she collected them over a period of time to finally create beautiful designs to be gifted to her family and each piece had so much of her in it.

When I got married, I told my mother I wanted these old pieces of jewellery as they were more precious with so much more heart than anything knew I would go and buy from a store where they already had their designs on display and would want me to pick what they thought was my style.

Vaana was born in that moment when we went out shopping and realised that Badima’s process could be recreated to make Jewellery that held personal significance to the one who was going to wear it. From choosing the diamonds or other precious stones coming up with a tentative design using modern technology to make 3 dimensional CAD drawings to give specifics of the design and size. A Digital version of what their eventual piece would look like, with the ability for them to make changes at this stage before the final making process. All these beautiful ideas and personal touches come together to create a piece of art that has personal significance for the one who will adorn it, love it and pass it on as an heirloom.

In the midst of all this I was deeply aware of the issues of sustainability and ethical implications that surround the practices in which stones are sourced.

Crafting Sustainability

In the world of fine jewellery, luxury often overshadows environmental concerns. However, what truly distinguishes Vaana from its counterparts is its unwavering dedication to sustainability. At the heart of every creation lies a commitment to ethical sourcing and environmentally friendly practices. We at Vaana aim to ensure that each gemstone and precious metal used in our designs is obtained through responsible mining practices, recycled and repurposed from existing jewellery or is produced in our Laboratory using the best modern techniques to create Diamonds, Emeralds, Rubies and Sapphires that are exact clones of their mined counter parts. This approach not only minimises environmental impact but also promotes the wellbeing of mining communities worldwide.

Beyond sustainability, Vaana is celebrated for its unique creations that transcend traditional boundaries. Each piece tells a story, reflecting not just our, but your distinctive artistic vision and a deep connection to nature and culture. Whether inspired by the serene beauty of a mountain landscape or the vibrant traditions of Indian weddings, every design exudes a sense of timeless elegance and individuality.

Vaana’s vision is not merely as a Jewellery brand but as a platform for meaningful change within the industry. Through collaborations with local artisans and partnerships with environmental organisations, Vaana actively promotes social responsibility and advocates for a more sustainable future.
